The Float Trip Experience

Scenic Waters, Wild Trout, and Unforgettable Days

At Paradise Valley Angler, we consider our "home waters" to be the Yellowstone River. As conditions and current fishing allow, we spend our days floating the beautifully scenic "valley stretch," targeting Yellowstone Cutthroat, Rainbow, and Brown Trout. These wild fish thrive in this freestone river and offer anglers a true Montana fly fishing experience. Later in the summer, we find ourselves on the "lower river" when the grasshoppers abound — a prime time for dry fly action with aggressive surface takes on high-floating foam patterns.

Being a freestone river, the Yellowstone does fall victim to a lengthy spring runoff season, and we can experience "mud plugs" from heavy rain. Thankfully, we have no shortage of other float options nearby, including the Madison and the Boulder River — all offering unique scenery and excellent trout fishing opportunities.

YELLOWSTONE RIVER

At Paradise Valley Angler, we consider our "home waters" to be the Yellowstone River. With over 100 miles of fishable water, the Yellowstone River flows right through the heart of paradise valley, offering breathe taking scenery and common wildlife viewings from the boat. This wild freestone river shines during spring and summer months for large dry fly fishing and is our go to choice for anglers of all abilities.

BOULDER RIVER

Right over the mountains to the east, we have the Boulder River which is very season sensitive depending on flows. This gem of a river is a tributary to the Yellowstone and is fished from a rubber raft.  Hence the name, the Boulder river has no shortage of habitat and would be considered a pocket water fishery. Don’t hesitate to ask about this dream stream. The Months that the Boulder River is fishable is typically April, June and July.

Madison RIVER

The Madison River is one the most diverse rivers in the state, carrying both freestone and tailwater characteristics. The Madison River offers anglers a wide variety of nymphing, dry-fly and streamer fishing depending on anglers’ preference and time of the year.

Missouri RIVER

Trips on the Missouri River are also offered. This Five star tailwater is known for giving anglers a “therapeutic” fishing experience in fish quality and quantity but don’t be fooled. The Missouri River offers anglers the opportunity to put their skills to the test while dry fly fishing to pods of large, selective trout!
